1880s Gold Prospector with Pickaxe

A weathered old prospector stands with a pickaxe held across his body in both gloved hands, head bowed as though sizing up the next seam. The grey beard, deep-lined face and slightly stooped shoulders make him read instantly as a man who has spent years working a claim.

His clothing is hard-worn frontier gear: a battered soft-brim hat, a long faded blue work coat over a checked flannel shirt, heavy canvas trousers stained at the knee, and tall scuffed leather boots. Fingerless work gloves and a plain leather belt finish the outfit, and the pick itself is sculpted with a wooden haft and a forged double-ended head.

He belongs in any gold-rush or mining scene: a placer claim beside a creek, a mine adit or ore chute, a stamp mill yard, or a boom-town street among the assay offices. On a narrow-gauge mining layout he gives an ore car or head frame a reason to be there, and he works well in Old West skirmish games as a townsfolk or claim-jumper character.
