An old prospector down on one knee, working a shallow pan in both hands with a scatter of gold flakes caught in the bottom. He wears a battered felt hat, a rolled-sleeve work shirt with braces, heavy trousers and worn lace-up boots, and his weathered beard and squint sell the long hours at the creek.
The kneeling pose is made for a stream bank: set him on gravel and running water with a sluice, a mule or a canvas tent to build an 1880s placer claim.
Equally at home on an old west town diorama, a mining branch line layout or a frontier skirmish table.
