A modern underground mining hand stands at rest holding a hand-held control box on a neck strap, thumbs resting on its toggles. He wears a yellow hard hat with a cap lamp and clip-on ear defenders, a blue work shirt, orange-panelled work trousers and steel-toed boots, with an orange harness across his chest.

The control unit and hearing protection place him at a boom drill rig or similar powered face machine, so he suits a late twentieth-century mine level, a tunnel-boring scene or a quarry face.

Works well in a contemporary industrial diorama, a mining or aggregate rail layout, or an underground works display alongside heavy machinery.
