An older monk sits low with one knee raised and the other leg folded, one hand resting on his knee and the other holding a small object at his chest. His head is shaved, his brow furrowed in concentration, and the robe leaves the right shoulder and chest bare in the traditional manner.

The saffron and deep orange cloth is sculpted in heavy folds that pool over the legs and ground, with a fine gold border along the edge, and simple sandals on his feet. He sits on a round base laid with flagstones.
