A robed figure in a skullcap balanced upside down on a single hand, legs scissored high overhead and free arm reaching for the ground. He wears a long ankle-length robe with wide sleeves, its fabric falling and bunching in the direction of the inversion, and he is barefoot.
It is a deliberately comic subject, executed seriously: the supporting wrist and shoulder carry the whole weight, the spine arches, and the loose sleeve hangs clear of the arm. Mounted on a plain round pad that can be sunk into paving or a stage floor.
A great humour beat for a street-festival or town-square diorama, a talent-show or busking vignette, or a park scene where a crowd has gathered to watch. Set a ring of standing spectators around him and the whole group tells a story on its own.
