This sculpt represents a Vietnam-era U.S. Navy aircraft handler (deck marshaller) in an active marshalling pose: both arms raised and holding two signaling wands, headset/ear defenders integrated into a flight deck helmet, protective goggles, a belted utility pouch at the hip, buttoned chest pockets and rolled sleeves. The sculpt captures the vertical posture and forward-stepping stance used on carrier and shore flight decks, with clear hand grip details on the wands and defined cuff and pocket seams for realistic painting and surface weathering.

Sculpt details and intent

- Headgear: molded flight helmet with integrated ear protection and a separate pair of goggles sitting on the faceplate, consistent with Vietnam-era deck crew protective equipment.

- Upper body: collared work shirt with two flap pockets, visible seams and button lines; rolled or pushed sleeves showing slight cloth creasing at the elbows.

- Lower body: straight-cut trousers, belt with buckle and a right-side pouch (radio/utility style) that reads as an attached field pouch rather than an oversized bag.

- Hands and wands: both hands are sculpted gripping signaling wands (batons) with clean, printable geometry; wand tips are simplified to avoid fragile thin ends while keeping recognizable form.

- Pose and base: forward-stepping stance with one foot slightly ahead for natural placement on a base or flight-deck surface. The sculpt is provided without a printing base so you can position or attach it to your layout base as desired.

Intended uses

This figure is designed for hobby use in historical dioramas, flight-deck vignettes, and layout scenes focused on naval aviation operations. It is sized and detailed for HO/1:87 dioramas but can be printed at other scales with the conversion notes included.

Distribution and scale file

Miniature Reality supplies a single 1:87 (HO) master STL file for this sculpt along with brief conversion notes you can use to resize for other scales. The master file preserves the intended silhouette and hand-rail geometry; if you plan to scale up significantly, check fine details (goggles, wand tips) and consider slight thickening for thin elements.

Printing and finishing notes for 3D-printers

The geometry has been prepared to preserve major seams and hand details while avoiding ultra-thin appendages; wand ends are made stout for reliability. Minimal supports are recommended under the arms and around the headset depending on print orientation; high-resolution resin printing preserves face and folds best, while FDM printers will benefit from careful orientation and support placement. After-print cleanup, the sculpt is ready for standard priming and paint workflows used in historical figure painting.

What you get

- One HO / 1:87 master file with conversion guidance. The file captures the deck marshaller pose, headset and wands, and is intended for hobbyists building Vietnam-era naval aviation scenes. If any provenance or manufacturer markings were present in source materials they have been removed for a neutral, generic subject.

Notes and provenance

This is a generic representation of a Vietnam-era U.S. Navy deck marshaller based on the supplied legacy project stub. Exact unit patching, numbered insignia or named individuals are not modeled. If you require a different era or a variant without the headset/goggles, contact us for bespoke modifications.
