Highway Maintenance Garage

A single-storey public-works garage with three roller-shutter vehicle bays along the long side and an attached office wing at the near end. The walls are vertical corrugated metal sheet with heavy pilasters and a moulded base course, and the low-pitched roof is ribbed metal with two capped ventilator stacks, a roof vent hood and two slim flue pipes.

The office end has multi-pane windows with sills, a panelled entry door under a small shed awning, and a projecting bay that breaks up the mass. The shutters are fully ribbed with bottom rails and lift handles, and the model sits on a flat paved apron slab that reads as the concrete forecourt.

Built as a county or state road-department depot: park plows, dump trucks, graders and salt spreaders inside and stack barriers, cones and sand piles outside. On a layout it works as a track-maintenance building, a bus garage, a municipal shop or a small industrial spur customer from the 1940s onward.
