What you receive

- One matte base-mesh STL scaled to HO (1:87). This is the only delivered geometry. If you need another scale, scale the HO master in your slicer or CAD by the ratio target/87. The HO master is the authoritative file intended for resizing by customers.

Subject and visible features

This mesh captures the Volkswagen Golf Mk3 compact hatchback silhouette familiar from early-to-mid 1990s European street scenes. Key visual cues preserved in the shell include a relatively short hood with modest front overhang, rectangular headlamp housings with a shallow grille pocket, a gently domed cabin roof that flows into a near-vertical rear hatch and a simplified rear bumper termination. The body shows clear panel separations at the hood, doors and liftgate; bumpers and small badges have been intentionally smoothed or suppressed so the silhouette reads cleanly at HO scale.

Detailing and mesh character

Fine filigree—such as grille mesh, thin windshield wipers, tiny badges and thin door-edge mouldings—has been reduced or removed to prevent fragile prints at miniature scales. Wheel-arch volumes are modelled as visible reliefs sized for small-scale wheels; the body is supplied as a single shell to simplify slicing and to work well for background fleet printing, quick diorama pieces and kitbash starters. The simplified bumper and trim volumes are kept to provide painting and weathering anchors while avoiding razor-thin geometry that prints poorly at HO.

Intended uses

- HO railroading layouts: scaled and proportioned to fit 1990s and contemporary European street scenes. The compact hatchback is suitable for street parking, gas station vignettes and residential or suburban layout scenes where silhouette recognition is more important than micro-detail.

- Dioramas and displays: the untextured shell prints cleanly and is ideal for grouping, convoy or parking-lot scenes. It is useful where rapid printing of multiple background vehicles is required and where painting and weathering create the final character.

- Kitbashing and modification: the single-shell, simplified format makes this a practical starting point for adding mirrors, side skirts, custom bumpers, glazing cutouts or interior inserts. The shell booleans and splits predictably for users who want to convert it into multi-part assemblies.

Printing guidance for hobbyists and makers

- Master scale: the file is a single 1:87 (HO) master. Scale for other sizes in your slicer or CAD and verify final dimensions before printing.

- Orientation and supports: for the best external finish, try printing the shell on its roof or use temporary wheel supports. Add minimal supports under bumper overhangs and inside deep wheel wells if your printer bridges poorly. Internal supports for under-hatch cavities can help prevent sagging when printing very thin shells.

- Fine parts and finishing: external items such as mirrors, antennas and wipers are intentionally excluded and should be printed separately at higher resolution or modelled and attached afterwards. The shell sands and primes well; use appropriate adhesives to attach aftermarket details.

Compatibility notes

- Badging and brand micro-detail: tiny badges and grille filigree have been suppressed to avoid fragile features and potential trademark issues. The overall body proportions, panel lines and hatch slope preserve the cars visual identity without relying on microbadges.

- Wheel fitment: wheel-arch reliefs are sized for small-scale wheel sets or printed wheel mocks. If you plan to fit specific aftermarket wheels or axles, check inner wheel-arch clearance in your slicer and scale the master slightly if needed.

Why choose this piece

- The Mk3 Golf silhouette is a recognizable compact hatchback ideal for populating 1990s urban and suburban scenes. This base-mesh balances silhouette fidelity with print reliability, making it a practical choice for fleet builds, kitbash projects and quick layout additions.

Support

- If you need guidance converting the HO master to another scale, splitting the body for multi-part printing, or checking wheel and axle clearance, contact Miniature Reality support with your target scale and printer details for tailored guidance.
