Stone Waterworks Pump House

A small single-room utility building in dressed grey stone, built to house pumping machinery. Heavy quoins run up every corner, a pale sandstone plinth course wraps the base, and a slate roof with a stone chimney stack caps the whole thing.

The entrance is a plank timber door under a voussoir arch with strap hinges and a stone step. Three small barred windows with green-painted frames and stone sills sit under matching arched heads, and a downpipe runs from the eaves at the gable end.

Buildings like this appear wherever water, gas or drainage infrastructure needs shelter: canal locks, reservoirs, mill leats, waterworks compounds and rural pumping stations from the Victorian era right through the twentieth century. On a layout it slots neatly beside a stream, a water tower or a lineside compound, and its solid stone walls make it useful hard cover on a skirmish table.
