A section-gang worker taking a breather, both forearms folded over the end of a long-handled shovel whose blade rests point-down on the ground beside his boot. His head is turned and tipped slightly down, giving the natural look of a man watching the rest of the crew work.

Period workwear is clearly modelled: a soft blue flat cap, an open blue denim work jacket over a red and white check flannel shirt, loose brown twill trousers gathered over scuffed lace-up work boots. The shovel is sculpted separately with a rounded steel blade and a plain wooden handle.

Built for a 1950s permanent-way scene: a track gang tamping ballast, a grade crossing repair, a yard throat, or a lineside work train. He is equally usable as a general labourer on a road crew, a farm, or a construction site of the period.
