A bearded underground miner caught at the top of a double-jack swing, both hands driving a long-handled sledge back over his shoulder. He wears a collarless work shirt with rolled sleeves, heavy trousers held by braces, a soft cap with a lamp bracket at the brow, and scuffed lace-up boots.
Small details carry the trade: a folded rag at the belt, worn knees and cuffs, and a scatter of loose rock cast into the ground pad under his feet.
Built for a hard rock mining scene of the 1880s: a shaft mouth or adit portal, an ore chute, a stamp mill yard, or a mining-camp module on a narrow-gauge layout.
