Stone Farm Springhouse

A small single-storey springhouse built from rough fieldstone, with a steep slate-shingled gable roof and a louvred timber cupola vent at the ridge. Two shuttered windows with heavy timber lintels and pale surrounds face the yard, and the exposed rafter tails run out under the eaves.

A weathered split-rail fence runs along the front, and the whole building sits on a grassed groundwork base with a worn dirt track leading up to it.

Springhouses kept milk, butter and produce cool over running water, so this is a natural addition to a 1800s or early-1900s farmstead: tuck it beside a creek behind the barn, on a rural railroad layout, or in a colonial or frontier settlement scene. It also doubles nicely as a smokehouse, well house or crofter's outbuilding for a fantasy village board.
