A bearded Victorian fireman braced over a heavy brass nozzle, one hand under the barrel and the other on the coupling as a length of canvas hose loops away behind him. He wears the tall leather helmet with a front shield and long rear brim, a long belted turnout coat with contrasting trim on the collar and cuffs, and heavy boots.

The nozzle and the trailing hose are sculpted as one piece with the figure, so the line lies naturally along the ground and reads as pressurised. His stance is braced and slightly turned, the classic hose-team position.

A must for a nineteenth-century fire scene: put two or three of these on a single line running back to a steam pumper, with a hose reel and a ladder crew alongside. He also works as a period accent outside a small-town firehouse on a Victorian layout.
