1880s Fireman with Forcible Entry Axe

A Victorian-era fireman stands set and ready with a long-handled fire axe held across his chest in both hands, blade up and head turned toward the work in front of him. The grip and the braced shoulders read as a man about to swing at a locked door.

He wears a dark blue wool turnout coat with red piping along the collar, cuffs and hem, a brass button at the throat, and a wide leather belt with a pouch and axe loop. A leather fire helmet with a long rear brim and a numbered front shield sits low over his eyes, and tall brown leather boots come up over the trouser leg.

He belongs on an 1870s-1890s town board beside a steam pumper, a hose reel or a hook and ladder rig. Use him at a burning tenement, a warehouse fire or a fire house forecourt to give a period emergency scene a figure clearly doing the job.
