A fire officer stands square with one hand on his hip and the other arm thrust straight out, finger extended, calling a crew or a hose line into position. The head is turned to follow the pointing arm, so the whole figure carries clear command authority.

He wears a long black rubberised turnout coat with a buttoned front, a tan corduroy storm collar turned up at the neck, a wide leather belt with a brass buckle, and heavy black rubber boots pulled up over the knee. A dark red leather fire helmet with a numbered brass front shield and a long rear brim marks his rank.

He suits 1910s-1930s town and city boards, working alongside early motor pumpers, ladder trucks and hose wagons. Place him in the street at a working fire with hose crews around him, or at the firehouse door, to give a period emergency scene a clear point of focus.
