This Gothic‑Renaissance altar shrine is a compact, purpose-designed architectural fixture intended as an interior focal piece for small chapels, cathedral alcoves, modular church interiors on model railway layouts, museum-style display dioramas, and tabletop settings. The composition emphasizes a vertical altarpiece silhouette built on a stepped plinth base with a shallow rear plinth so the piece sits flush against a scenic wall or inserts cleanly into modular interiors.
Visible features modeled and preserved for readability at small scales include a central tabernacle-like niche framed by slender engaged columns and a pointed arch; flanking traceried panels with simplified traceries; engaged pilasters capped by simplified capitals; a defined cornice line; and multiple vertical pinnacles and finials that create the upward rhythm typical of late Gothic detail moving into early Renaissance proportions. Lateral wings contain medium-relief carved panels and simplified statuette suggestions that read at HO scale without introducing fragile micro-features that would either fail to print or break during handling.
Design choices were deliberately conservative to improve small-scale reproducibility. Very small items such as candle hints and tiny statuettes are integrated into the altarpiece silhouette rather than provided as separate loose parts. The central niche has been modeled at a visual size appropriate to accept an HO-scale statuette from common figure part sets if you choose to add one; no separate figure is included. The rear face of the piece is intentionally flattened with a shallow rear plinth so the shrine mounts flush to backdrop flats or slides into modular interior inserts without complex joins.
Files included: one watertight master STL prepared and exported at 1:87 (HO) baseline. Miniature Reality supplies a single HO master STL only; the download contains a short scale-conversion note explaining how to uniformly scale the master STL in your slicer or 3D application to target other popular scales (for example scale factors to move to 1:76 OO or to 1:72). No separate scale-specific STLs are supplied.
Printability notes for 3D printers: the mesh is optimized to keep ornamental pinnacles and traceried openings readable at HO while avoiding overly fragile filigree. For resin (SLA/DLP) printing, orient the model on its back (rear face down) to minimize supports across the decorative front and to protect finials; small rear-facing support islands are easier to remove and sand. For FDM, consider printing upright with the base down and using tree supports for pinnacles, or split the model into base and upper superstructure before scaling if you require thicker connection points—however the supplied master is a single-part STL. Test-print a pinnacles section and a traceried panel at your intended layer height and nozzle/resin settings to confirm the level of detail your equipment can reproduce.
Finishing and installation: remove supports carefully around traceried openings and pinnacles; light sanding, priming and subtle washes bring out the medium-relief carvings. The flat rear face allows direct gluing to scenic walls, modular interior floors or a narrow backing plinth for display photography. Treat the shrine as an architectural wooden or stone altarpiece when finishing—basecoat, selective drybrushing and subdued washes will deepen the low-relief carvings. The central niche visually accepts HO statuettes but none are included in the download.
