Bridge Tender Control House

A square operator's house of the kind that sits over a movable bridge or a canal lock, raised on a solid concrete pier so the crew can see the full length of the span. Pale green clapboard siding wraps the walls, with dark brown corner boards and a low hipped roof capped by a small ventilator.

Big multi-pane sash windows run around every elevation to give an all-round view of the channel, and a railed observation walkway is carried on projecting rafter tails all the way around the roof line. A hooded entry porch and a switchback timber stair with turned handrails climb the pier to the door, and roof vents and pipe stacks break the ridge.

It suits a harbour, canal or river crossing scene: a lift or swing bridge, a lock chamber, a dockside cutting or a rail drawbridge on a layout. Set beside water with tugs and barges it makes an immediate story point, and its raised footprint gives good elevated cover on a wargame board.
