A compact two-storey stone building with a steep slate gable roof, a tall brick chimney with three pots, and a lower slate-roofed porch over the entrance. The walls are laid in rough coursed blockwork with heavier quoins at the corners, and the openings carry deep stone lintels and sills.
Visible fittings include a plank door with strap hinges reached by a short flight of steps with a painted handrail, shuttered windows with small panes, a wall-mounted junction box, and cast rainwater pipes and gutters running down the corners. The building sits on a thin flat foundation slab that beds straight into scenery.
Intended as a bridge or lock control house, a signal cabin or a small utility station on a European-style layout, and equally at home as a keeper's cottage on a rural road. Its solid stonework and small footprint also make it useful terrain for a village skirmish board.
