Pole-Mounted Transformer Bank

A timber utility pole carrying a full distribution transformer bank. Three cylindrical can transformers hang from a steel mounting frame partway up the pole, wired through to the crossarms above with heavy jumpers and looped service drops.

The upper crossarm carries a row of pin insulators on braced steel brackets, with a second crossarm and cutout bank below it. Climbing steps are staggered up the pole shaft, the timber is weathered and grain-textured, and the hardware is picked out in galvanised grey against the creosote-dark wood.

This is a workhorse detail for any twentieth-century or modern scene: line it up along a rural road, plant it at the corner of an industrial yard, or use it where a feeder drops into a small-town main street. A short run of these turns bare baseboard into believable inhabited landscape, and it suits railway layouts, modern-day diorama work and contemporary skirmish boards alike.
