Timber Water Tower with Filling Spout

A classic elevated water tank built from vertical staves bound by iron hoops, capped with a conical metal roof and finial and carried on a braced timber trestle. A planked service walkway with a plain railing runs right around the tank.

The working gear is all there: a counterweighted filling spout swings out from a hinged bracket on one side with its chain tackle, a vertical standpipe and elbow feed the tank from below, and a long ladder climbs from the ground to the walkway. Weathered timber, streaked verdigris on the roof and rust on the hoops give it plenty of character.

It is a natural centrepiece for a steam-era engine terminal, a small-town water stop, a logging or mining camp, or a frontier settlement diorama where a raised tank marks the skyline.
