1880s Lumberjack on a Springboard

A logger balanced on a springboard driven into the stump, axe wound back over his shoulder at the top of the swing. Boots are braced wide along the plank, the torso is fully twisted into the stroke, and both gloved hands are locked on the helve.

He is dressed for the woods: a red and black buffalo-check wool shirt, a dark knitted watch cap, button suspenders over heavy trousers and tall calk-soled boots. The plank, its notched support and the axe head are modelled as separate solid forms so the balancing pose reads clearly from any side.
