A track gang labourer leaning into the pump handle of a hand-powered rail car. He grips the crossbar with both hands, arms straight and body braced back, the whole pose built around the up-and-down rhythm of the stroke.

He is dressed in period working clothes: a flat cloth cap, a buttoned waistcoat over a rolled-sleeve collarless shirt, a neckerchief knotted at the throat, heavy trousers and scuffed work boots. His round base is textured with ballast stone and cinders.

Designed to be dropped straight onto a handcar or velocipede on a nineteenth century railroad layout, or used in a track-laying and maintenance-of-way vignette on a frontier or industrial-age diorama.
