An 1880s railroad construction hand caught in the middle of giving directions: right arm thrust out with a pointing finger, left hand raised near the chest as if counting off the next move.

Dress is period working wear - a flat wool cap, collarless shirt with rolled sleeves, an open leather waistcoat, a red neckerchief knotted at the throat, heavy denim trousers and scuffed lace boots. Seams, pocket welts and belt line are sculpted crisply enough to read at small sizes.

He is the natural gang boss for a track-laying or grading vignette: place him beside a rail crew, a work train, a bridge gang or a station under construction on a nineteenth-century layout, or use him as a foreman on any industrial-era diorama.
