A mine labourer walks forward with a heavy armful of gear hugged across his chest: a bundle of long drill steels, a pair of hand hammers and a section of pipe, all bound together against his body by both arms.
He wears a mid-century underground outfit of a low-crowned metal helmet with a mounted lamp and neck flap, a cream long-sleeved work shirt under blue denim bib overalls, a belt-hung lamp battery, buckled leather knee pads, and tall grey-brown rubber boots.
He is the classic tool-runner figure for a mine drift, hoist station, tool crib or portal yard on a 1950s mining layout, and gives a mining diorama a sense of ongoing shift work.
