1950s Logging Rigging Slinger with Cable

A mid-century logging crewman leans back and hauls on a steel choker cable, both hands wrapped around the wire as it runs down and away across the ground. The braced legs and turned shoulders capture the strain of setting a choker on a yarding show.

He is dressed the way a working faller or rigging slinger was in the 1950s: a shallow-brim aluminium hard hat, a red plaid wool shirt with the sleeves rolled back, blue denim bib overalls with a bar-tacked bib and metal buckles, a heavy leather work glove and calk-soled lace-up boots. The cable is sculpted as a taut twisted wire running off the edge of the muddy round base.

He belongs in a logging camp scene: a landing beside a spar tree, a skidder or steam donkey pulling turns of logs, a log deck at a mill, or a log-train loading spur on a layout. Group him with fallers and a bucker to build a full timber-crew vignette.
