A city patrolman of the interwar years walks his beat in a blue serge tunic buttoned to the throat, with a chest shield, collar numerals and a peaked cap bearing a shield badge. A Sam Browne belt runs over the right shoulder and around the waist.

His duty belt carries a holstered revolver and a pair of handcuffs hanging at the hip, and he wears straight uniform trousers over plain black shoes.
