A mid-century traveller sitting with one leg crossed over the other, an open magazine held in both hands and his head tipped down to read. He wears a soft-brim fedora, a single-breasted sport coat over a light shirt and knotted tie, cuffed trousers and brogue shoes.
The seated pose has a flat, level base under the hips, so he drops straight onto a coach seat, a waiting-room bench, a station wall or a packing crate without reworking the legs. Lapels, pocket flaps, jacket vents, trouser cuffs and the splayed magazine pages are all separately modelled.
Built for 1950s passenger scenes: a coach or observation-car interior, a depot waiting room, a bus terminal or a hotel lobby. He also works as quiet background life on a period Main Street bench, and reads convincingly anywhere from the late 1940s through the early 1960s.
