A tall, elegantly dressed gentleman of the late Victorian era pauses to open his pocket watch, the chain swinging from his waistcoat and a monocle screwed into one eye. The slightly imperious tilt of the head and the raised brow give him real character.
The outfit is beautifully period-correct: a short-crowned top hat with a banded brim, a fitted tailcoat with turned-back cuffs and a high collar, a buttoned brocade waistcoat, a cravat knotted at the throat, narrow trousers and neat ankle boots. Mud flecks up the legs and cuff hint at a walk through city streets rather than a studio pose.
He is at home on a Victorian or Edwardian high street, an opera-house or gentlemen's club entrance, a railway platform waiting for the express, or a gaslit alley scene. He also slots neatly into steampunk and Gothic-horror tabletop settings as an aristocrat, investigator or unlucky bystander.
