Tar Pit Lurker — master description

This sculpt depicts a hulking sludge creature emerging from a tarry pool, its jaw packed with uneven serrated teeth and its body a mass of dripping folds, spikes, and hanging goop. The figure rests on a round base whose surface is sculpted as thick, pooling tar studded with bones and a human skull partially submerged at the creature's feet. Long, hooked claws reach forward and a row of short spikes crowns the upper back and head, giving the lurker a menacing silhouette from every angle. The composition reads as a single narrative moment: something enormous forcing its way out of a viscous trap, leaving a trail of drips and slick folds across the base.

Sculpt details and features

- Dense surface detail: layered slime folds, droplet forms, and dragged tar streaks create tactile highlights that print well at hobby scales when oriented and supported correctly.

- Distinct facial focal point: deep-set eyes, a broad, snarling mouth, and overlapping teeth draw attention while preserving negative space for painterly wash and contrast.

- Base elements: sculpted skull, rib fragments, and pooled tar form an integrated vignette that frames the creature and helps anchor it on a table or display plinth.

- Pose and silhouette: forward-reaching claws and low crouch create a strong three-quarter profile that reads clearly even on smaller bases.

Intended uses

This piece is intended as a tabletop miniature or diorama centerpiece for horror and dark fantasy settings. It suits roleplaying encounters, wargaming scenarios, vignette displays, and collector shelves. The base is integral to the composition and can be displayed as a single tableau or integrated into larger terrain scenes.

Print and scale information

This product is supplied as a single 1:87 (HO) master STL file. Miniature Reality provides one 1:87 (HO) master file for consistent downstream scaling. If you want to print the sculpt at a different hobby scale (for example 28–32mm heroic, 54mm display, or other common ratios), scale the master file in your slicer by the appropriate ratio. The master is optimized for detail retention at 1:87; when scaling up, check details for thin features (long claws, dangling drips) and add modest thickness or internal supports where needed. When scaling down, consider resin printing at higher resolution and use conservative support settings to preserve droplet forms.

Print notes for hobbyists (for printers and slicers)

- Orientation: a gentle rear-down angle reduces supports on the face and preserves the droplet forms along the chest. Consider orienting claws slightly upward when possible to avoid elongate support contact along the tips.

- Supports: thin hanging drips and long claws will require supports on most print technologies. Use small contact points on deep recesses and consider splitting the mesh if you plan to print in multiple pieces for easy cleanup.

- Layer height: for fine droplet texture, 0.05–0.1 mm layer height (resin prints) or 0.08–0.12 mm (high-resolution FDM) helps retain sculpt detail.

- Cleanup: a soft brush and careful filing remove support scars without damaging the layered slime textures.

Files included and license

- One 1:87 (HO) master STL file (single-piece sculpt on its base). The file is supplied for personal use in hobby, tabletop, and non-commercial display. For licensing queries or bundle requests, contact Miniature Reality support.

Notes on provenance and uncertainties

This listing is derived from a legacy project stub labeled “hitem2 p052 tar pit lurker.” The sculpt is presented as an original fantasy creature design; no real-world maker, brand, or year can be confirmed from the available source metadata. Real-world prototype dimensions were not provided in the source data; the package therefore uses the standard Miniature Reality policy of shipping a single 1:87 master and advising scale conversions in the product notes.

If you need alternate scale masters or a multi-part printable kit, please contact the store for a commissioned conversion or a rework service.
