A laughing Hindu priest holds up an enormously oversized ice cream cone in both hands, head tipped back in delight. The tilak mark on his forehead and the topknot in his grey hair are carefully sculpted, and the joke lands because everything else about the figure is played straight.
He wears traditional temple dress: a saffron and red striped dhoti wrapped and pleated at the waist, a matching angavastram draped over one shoulder, a sacred thread across the bare chest, and bare feet. Gold-bordered fabric bands run along the hems, and the cone itself is a stack of pale scoops on a waffle horn.
He works as a humour figure for a festival, street-food or fairground scene, a temple-courtyard vignette, or as a small surprise hidden in a busy market diorama. On a layout he brings colour and character to a crowd, and he pairs naturally with an ice cream cart or a food stall.
